Y11 Homework - You should be writing a homework which you agree with me each week and write it into your A4 folder by Friday - the following Thursday you will review what you achieved and how you can add/improve it via class marking/ peer / self / teacher feedback. Below gives you suggestions of what you should be doing each week.

Week 1 and 2  AO1 (Develop) 16 – 27 Sept

Mind Map, Mood Board,  Artist Mood Board, Artist Research,  Art Movement.

Use a range of media.

Week 3 and 4 AO3 (Recording) 30 Sep -11 Oct

Make more critical choices, look closely at what is relevant  - draw ideas

Photograph and make images intended to develop ideas

Make studies from direct observation

Detailed responses to artists work inspired by style or technique.

Annotate your work - explain likes and dislikes. Suggest further options to develop ideas further.

Week 5 (Refine) 14- 18 Oct + October half term

Experiment with different materials - collage chalk charcoal ink acrylic mixed media watercolour oil pastels biro, printmaking

Make some work in the style of the artist you have looked at

Try out ideas for final piece consider different options

Try out different colour schemes

Try out different compositions

Try out different backgrounds

Week 7 and 8  (Present ) 4 – 22 Nov

Draw out plan of final piece

Write briefly about your idea and describe how it relates to the work of artists studied

Enlarge sections and practice using media materials and techniques you are going to use in the exam

Practice subject matter that could be difficult e.g. face or hands

Make sure you have good quality photos to work from which are printed for the exam or the real thing

Discus you plan with your art teacher to get advice and tell you art teacher if you require any special materials at least 1 week prior to the exam.

10 Hour Exam  (end of Nov beginning of Dec)  over two days
You must discuss your ideas and bring in all your preparatory work at the start of the exam.

Easter Holidays Y11

Y11 you should create at least one finished outcome for your exam question, painting, sculpture, drawing etc. Complete your experiments and come ready to write your plan for your ten hour ESA (Externally Set Assignment.)

Fur Feathers and Scales Exhibition Feb 21 - April 16

A new exhibition will be opening at the Quay Arts in Newport on Thursday. As part of the Quay's ‘nature’ inspired exhibitions ‘Fur, Feather & Scales’ is an exhibition of limited edition prints, showing a different aspect of Nick Martin’s work and this series picks out some of his favourite creatures. This exhibition might be of interest to Y11 students who have chosen Natural Forms or Textures for their question.  Also Y10 students who are currently looking at all things Fish.  Y9 students might also like to get some ideas for animal inspired projects.

Y11 Exam - Punk Exhibition at the Quay in Newport

This is the last week for the Punk exhibition at the Quay Arts in Newport.  The exhibition is free but there is a closing party which cost £5
This exhibition may be of interest to Y11 students who have chosen Messages, Texture or My Surroundings as a title.

Y9 & Y10 Cowes Harbour Landmark Design Competition

 Y9 Half Term HW

All Y9 and Y10 students (optional in Y11) will take part in the Competition.

Over the half term you are expected to create an A3 or A4 mind map, A3 or A4 mood board and A3 or A4 page of initial ideas for the Competition.

Y11 Summer Homework

Over the Summer complete work required to complete your Y9/10 folder.

You are to choose a title from Landscape, Identity, Architecture, Landmarks, Mechanical Objects. 

1.    Title page (optional)

2.    A3 mood board use pinterest to find drawings, printmaking, paintings, photographs, textile art, sculpture and appropriate design work images linked to your title.

3.    A3 artist mood board from the artists listed in the information below and some of your own type the name of the artist under the art work.

4.    Visit a gallery or exhibition and create at least one A3 page based on your visit, collect brochures, take photos, make thumbnail sketches and brief notes about the art work you see and what you thought.

Architecture title - I recommend that you go ‘Thirty’ High Street opposite the Guildhall in Newport as there is an architecture exhibition on only until the 30^th July - collect University booklets.

5.    Take at least 24 photos for your title, try to include interesting angles, take photos of the same place or object at different times of day, different position, backgrounds, use compositional guidelines - leading lines, rule of thirds, contrast of colour, texture, light and dark, close ups etc.

6.    Complete at least one artist research page and response.

7.    Produce studies based on your theme experiment with at least 3 different media (pen, charcoal, collage, acrylic paint, watercolour, oil pastel, mixed media.

8.    Use different papers, brown wrapping paper, wallpaper, canvas, cartridge, sugar paper, tissue paper.

Optional                                                                                                             

a) Manipulate the images you have taken, create photocollages, experiment with a digital manipulation software – download a free app on your phone and experiment with ideas, print up your photos and paint ontop of them or extend them into a drawing.

b) Produce a final outcome either for this title or another outcome for the Y10 Sea project or your Y10 mock exam.

c) Create design(s) for a lino print, silk screen print or foam print based on your theme.

d) 2^nd photo shoot take another set of 24 images.

The more you do in the summer the better – You have one term left on your portfolio which is worth 60% of your GCSE.
